Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of the 23rd James Bond adventure, SKYFALL, announced today that the character of Q will be making a welcome return to the Bond franchise and confirmed that the role will be played by British actor Ben Whishaw.

Whishaw becomes the fourth actor to play Bond’s quartermaster, affectionately known as Q. The role began with Peter Burton as Major Boothroyd in DR. NO followed by Desmond Llewelyn (in 17 Bond films between 1963-1999), and John Cleese (who appeared as Q’s assistant, R, in THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH and was later promoted to Q in DIE ANOTHER DAY).

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli commented, “It’s a real thrill to confirm the return of Q in SKYFALL played by the enormously talented, Ben Whishaw. We are delighted to have this beloved character back in the series.”

Ben Whishaw will be seen later this year in the film adaptation of David Mitchell’s best selling novel, Cloud Atlas, alongside an all-star cast including Tom Hanks, Jim Sturgess and Halle Berry, and in the BBC’s Richard II. He will also be seen in the second series of The Hour for the BBC, in which he stars opposite Dominic West. His films include roles in Bright Star, The Tempest, Brideshead Revisited, I’m Not There, Stoned, Layer Cake, Enduring Love, The Trench, Mauvaise Passé, and the lead roles in My Brother Tom and Perfume opposite Alan Rickman and Dustin Hoffman. He has also starred in the hugely popular BBC TV drama Criminal Justice which saw him pick up the award for best actor at the 2009 Royal Television Society Awards, Best Actor at the International Emmy Awards 2009 and was nominated for Best Actor at the 2009 BAFTA Television Awards. He will appear in Michael Grandage’s production of Peter and Alice in the title role opposite Judi Dench in 2013.

Producer Michael G. Wilson confirms the title of the 23rd James Bond film is SKYFALL.
Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli today presented the cast of the 23rd James Bond adventure, entitled SKYFALL. The film, from Albert R. Broccoli’s Eon Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is directed by Academy Award® winner Sam Mendes and stars Daniel Craig, who returns for his third film as James Bond 007. The screenplay is written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and John Logan. SKYFALL, which goes into production on Monday, November 7th, will begin its worldwide roll-out in the UK and Ireland on October 26th 2012 and in North America on November 9th 2012.

Joining Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Director Sam Mendes were members of the cast of SKYFALL, including: Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe. The filmmakers also announced Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw.

In SKYFALL, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

“We’re so delighted to have Sam Mendes direct SKYFALL and be working once again with Daniel Craig. We’ve a great script, an extraordinary cast and an incredibly talented creative team for this latest James Bond adventure,” said Wilson and Broccoli.

The Director of Photography is Roger Deakins, a nine-time Oscar® nominee who previously shot the films Jarhead and Revolutionary Road for Mendes. The Production Designer is Oscar® winner Dennis Gassner, who previously designed Quantum of Solace and collaborated with Mendes on the films Road to Perdition and Jarhead. The Editor is Stuart Baird, A.C.E., whose many credits include Casino Royale. Jany Temime, whose many credits include the Harry Potter series, In Bruges, and Children of Men, is the Costume Designer. Action specialist Alexander Witt is the 2nd Unit Director. Gary Powell is Stunt Co-ordinator, Chris Corbould is SFX Supervisor and Steve Begg is Visual Effects Supervisor, all of whom have worked on previous Bond films.

-The cast is confirmed: Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem (villain), Bérénice Marlohe, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, and Ben Wishaw. The first five are on stage.
The reason the press conference is being held in a central London hotel and not Pinewood Studios is because shooting today is based around Whitehall.
-Bérénice Marlohe will play ‘a glamorous, enigmatic character called Severin’. The tabloid press actually got that one right. Confusion with the villain’s name from the ‘Carte Blanche’ novel is bound to ensue, despite confirmation that SKYFALL is not related to any existing Bond property.
-Naomie Harris says she has spent two months training for her role. She will play a field agent called Eve. No word of Miss Moneypenny being in the film.
-Mendes responds to the tabloid chatter about his desire to scoop Oscar nominations given his incredible cast. ”It’s not the reason you do a movie and not the reason you do a Bond movie. For me, Bond movies are for the audience and what happens afterwards is out of my hands.”
-Javier Bardem is talking. ”Who told you a villain is a bad person? For me, it’s an honour to be at this table for many reasons. It will be fun to do.”
-The budget for SKYFALL will be similar to ‘Quantum of Solace’ – nothing will be cut back, and nothing in the script has been cut back from their plans.
-The new girls have been busy honing their skills. Harris has been doing Yoga three times a week, stunt driving, and firing machine guns – which she loves – stunt training, jumping out of cars and running up and down stairs. Marlohe has been shooting guns, too.
-The press conference has concluded. The panel did an great job of keeping everyone engaged for 30 minutes whilst still not giving too much away about the film. Not a huge amount of surprise for  readers on the details revealed, except perhaps the Severin character name which was largely thought of as tabloid bunkum.
-When the panel is asked if the reason why three character names have not been revealed it is because fans would recognise them, the audience is told the question is well phrased and hint that is exactly the reason.
--Barbara Broccoli responds ”Definitely!” when asked if Daniel Craig will do more Bond films after SKYFALL. Craig himself says ”If I could do this for a few more years then I’ll be happy.” It seems he will be on for Bond 24 at the very least.
-SKYFALL will be similar in tone to ‘Casino Royale’ – news which will be received well by the vast majority of fans. Daniel Craig confirms he does have a shirtless scene, too. Bond Girls rejoice.
-When asked, Sam Mendes hopes to direct another Bond movie ”if this goes well”. The title SKYFALL has an ‘emotional meaning’ which will be revealed in the film. Quantum will not be involved.

SKYFALL BOND 23

Sam Mendes wanted to spring a surprise on his high-calibre cast gathered at Pinewood studios for a script reading of the latest 007 adventure. Dailymail As the likes of Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes sat leafing through their scripts, each stamped ‘Highly  Confidential’, with every page watermarked and coded, they must all have been wondering: who on earth could the Oscar-winning director be bringing in who might leave them shaken and (pleasantly) stirred? Reacting to DT's story that " Bond 23" had pulled the plug on shooting in India as they couldn't wait for so long for permissions, Indian Railways has clarified that they'd given all requisite permissions.

Chandralekha Mukherjee, executive director, information and publicity, Indian Railways, told DT, "We'd given them all the permissions. They wanted to shoot in the Sabarmati yard and had asked to shoot on two gauges – broad gauge and meter gauge – and they wanted these for seven-hour stretches every day for seven days in a row, and we'd agreed. All had been worked out."

The next Bond will start in October or November. I’m really excited about the script, it’s fantastic,” he says. Craig became a household name after his debut as Bond in Casino Royale (2006), a fact he accepts with modesty. “I was glad to know that Bond fans accepted me after Pierce Brosnan, who was incredible as James Bond, he says.

NEW JAMES BOND ACTOR SAM WORTINGTON

FRESH from his success as an intergalactic Avatar, betting agencies are tipping Sam Worthington to slide into James Bond's Aston Martin as the next 007.

The Australian hunk has become favourite, ahead of Will Smith to replace Daniel Craig as the famed British spy on the big screen.

His interpretation of Corporal Jake Sully, a disabled soldier who falls in love with an alien from Pandora in Avatar helped the James Cameron film to overtake Titanic as the highest grossing film ever.
Names being touted as his potential love interest as new Bond girls include Britain's Cheryl Cole and Freida Pinto, who starred in Slumdog Millionaire.

Worthington has also been mentioned as the man most likely to reprise the role of Dracula in the next Hollywood incarnation of the villain from Transylvania.

The only other Australian to play the hero, most famously brought to life by Roger Moore and Sean Connery, was George Lazenby. HERALDSSUN

James Bond fans to name new 007 blockbuster.
London: James Bond fans are being urged to suggest the title of the 23rd blockbuster 007 film, scheduled to hit cinemas next year. Bosses at MGM have admitted that they are running out of names based on the best-selling novels of Ian Fleming.

However, fans are lobbying studio executives to choose between the names of two Fleming short stories with box office appeal.
And they've also come up with their own promo posters to show how good they'd look.
One army of 007 fanatics is promoting Risico, originally written as part of the For Your Eyes Only novelettes. It sees Bond being sent by M to investigate a drug-smuggling operation based in Italy that is flooding Britain with narcotics.

A rival group wants the next film to be called The Property Of A Lady, another Fleming short story that sees Bond on the trail of a gorgeous Russian double agent who has infiltrated our Secret Service.

A senior MGM executive said that director Sam Mendes has been 'blown away' by creativity of the fans.

James Bond offered starring role in Versailles.
Parisian civil servants have tried to persuade 007's producers to set the 23rd Bond adventure in the 17th-century château
Its overblown grandeur has been the setting for many a period tale, from Stephen Frears's Dangerous Liaisons to to Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. Now the guardians of the nation's most famous château want the Palace of Versailles to make its mark on a much wider audience - by virtue of a starring role in a future James Bond movie.

Parisian civil servants have gone so far as to write a storyline for 007, aimed at luring series producers Eon to the 17th-century palace. Scenarios might include Bond chasing through the palace after environmental terrorists, or perhaps making his escape through gardens designed according to the exacting tastes of Louis XIV.

"We want to give the producers some ideas, because it would be great to have James in the magnificent decor of the château," Stéphane Martinet, the deputy director of the Paris region film commission, told the Times. "Producers tend to think of it as a setting for period movies, but these are not the most profitable films these days. We would like to get across the message that Versailles could be a location for all sorts of different movies."

A total of 165 movies have been filmed at Versailles, the home of French royalty from 1682 until the revolution of 1789. The palace has been increasingly opened up to film-makers since the French government asked it to manage its own budget a decade ago.

These recent changes have sparked anger among some traditionalists, with opponents claiming that the château is being turned into a theme park. But Mr Martinet said the initiative, which is part of a concerted attempt by French authorities to lure movie-makers from Hollywood, could only help boost tourism and create employment.

Crews who cannot afford Versailles's €16,000-a-day (£14,000) rate can choose to shoot at an ordinary château for as little as €4,500. Last year the government also introduced a 20% tax break for film-makers shooting in France's stately homes.

Bond's 23rd adventure is set for release next year, with Daniel Craig reprising his role as the secret agent; the Oscar-winning British film-maker Sam Mendes is to direct.

Susan Boyle to star in James Bond movie?
qos-wallpaper-3-lg.jpg (278273 bytes)

The producers of the next Bond film have approached Boyle to sing the title tune.
The name is Boyle, Susan Boyle.

The Scottish star seems set to sing in the next James Bond movie, joining Sean Connery another famous Scottish star, to leave their mark on the James Bond franchise.

The producers of the new, as yet-unnamed Bond film, have approached Boyle to sing the title tune of the new movie, the 23rd Bond production, which is expected to be released in 2011.

Susan's fans have already joined in the effort. A full-fledged internet campaign is under way to have the Scottish songstress belt out the opening tune, like Shirley Bassey and other leading stars have done in the past. There may even be a bit acting part, according to reports.
Bond theme composer Monty Norman told the Sunday Express: "She has the right kind of sweeping voice." Susan would be the second great Scottish star from the Glasgow to make her debut in Bond films. Sean Connery was the face and persona of James Bond for many years and made the role famous.  irishcentral.com

NOTES ABOUT PREVIOUS FILMs IN ISTANBUL

From Russia With Love, 1963

      ·       The film was shot on location in Istanbul in 1963 and includes lots of sweeping scenes of the City. James Bond visits the airport, the railway station, the Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sophia and sails down the Bosphorus.

      ·       During production in 1963 Ian Fleming took Dana Broccoli sightseeing on a boat on the Bosphorus.  Ian Fleming had a great knowledge of the city as he had been on an assignment as a journalist the year before. He based the character Kerim Bey on his friend, Oxford-educated, Nazim Kalkaren.

      ·       In Cubby Broccoli’s autobiography (The Man Who Brought James Bond 007 to the Screen), he says that in Istanbul, Ian was in his element. “He loved the sounds, the spicy smells, the bazaars, the street merchants and the belly dancers…”

Film bloppers Skyfall 2012
:When the MI6 building is blown up, we hear the explosion as it happens. In reality, because of the distance they are away from it, the sound should be about a second later.

: When Bond has begun searching the train for the villain, a blonde passenger's face is clearly shown on the right hand side of the screen. About a minute later, the same extra is waiting to board the same train at the next station.

: In the Istanbul chase scene, when Bond reaches the the motorcycle the owner is still standing next to it. Yet in the next cut when Bond gets on the bike, the owner is no longer seen.

: In the opening scene where Moneypenny is holding the rifle, you can see the flash suppressor was installed upside down. The 'slots' are on the bottom.

: Just after Bond has lost track of Silva in the London Underground station, the scene cuts to M's parliament meeting. At this time, the time on M's watch reads 3:00. Yet when Bond catches up with Silva in the basement of the London Underground station, the time on Bond's watch reads 4:55. Far too long to have passed given the events seen and distances travelled.

: The excavator Bond uses on the train has walking platforms welded to the top of the digging arm, they are not a feature of the machine but necessary if you are going to have your actor run up the arm.

: During the chase through the London Underground station, in the shot before Silva jumps onto the escalator, a female extra can be seen looking directly into the camera.

: When Bond climbs up from under lift/elevator after hanging under assassins lift car he opens adjacent lift/elevator landing doors just by pulling them apart, this is not possible without first disengaging the landing door lock mechanism which is operated when car is at that landing,if this where possible anyone could push lift/elevator doors open from landing and fall down shaft.

: In Turkey the first two numbers of a vehicle licence plate belongs to a city. 34 for Istanbul for example. The motorcycle chase in the beginning of the movie takes part in Istanbul, (The Land Rover and the Audi has 34 plates) however once they come to the bridge where Bond jumps to the train, all the vehicles on the bridge(except the Land Rover) has plates that start with 01, which is the licence plate number for the city Adana, where those scenes were shot.

: During Bond's fight with Patrice in the Shanghai high-rise, Patrice's sniper rifle fires several times, presumably by accident. However, moments earlier, when Patrice assassinates his target in the neighboring building, the rifle is shown to be bolt-action. A bolt-action rifle can't be fired more than once without manually loading the next round.

: When Silva is about to slide down the escalator, Bond runs past the same blonde woman twice between shots.

: The Ambulances used in the film in the "M" attack in London are incorrect, as they are not the current vehicles used by London ambulance service. They all now have the patient lifts on the rear. Various vehicle tax discs were out of date too.

: The scene where M walks to see Mr Silver, after his capture. She walks through an open armor door that is about 65 degrees open but when she walks through the door is open 90 degrees and the door was never touched.

: On the District line, Temple and Embankment stations do not have two platforms between each train. They actually run side by side, and not with the platforms in between the two trains.

: Early in the film after Bond is shot off the top of the train and floats down river he ends up in some run down hotel. He goes drinking at some local bar trying to drink some whisky with a scorpion on his wrist/arm. The scorpion's stinger has been removed.

: While talking with Severine in the casino bar, Bond gets his martini in a frozen glass. He picks it up, the camera's point of view changes, and the glass is instantly completely unfrozen.

: When Bond is chasing Silva through the London Underground system they both supposedly get on a train at Temple Station on the District Line. The train is in fact a Jubilee Line train, but with District Line route maps on the inside. The back said Elephant & Castle and the front said Wimbledon.

: In the car scene just before the MI6 explosion, invalid IPv4 addresses (with digits larger than 255) are displayed on the laptop screen. [This gets debated, with comparisons made to 555 phone numbers. 555 may not be a real area code, but there's nothing technically preventing it being one. IP addresses, however, just can't have numbers larger than 255 - it's like a phone number having a % symbol in it.]

: In the Commons Committee scene, when the CO2 extinguishers are shot, they slowly release their contents over a long period of time, giving a significant 'smokescreen'. In fact, a shot which was able to penetrate the cylinder would cause a very quick release of gas, and the 'smokescreen' effect would be fairly limited.

": In the chase through the tube station, Bond and Silva both slide down between the escalators. On the London Underground this area has hard vertical signs at regular intervals, precisely to prevent people sliding down.

: When Bond drives his motorbike into the bridge, the scene changes to Bond landing on the train, the bike magically landing on its wheels upright, then when the scene changes again, the bike has disappeared, yet the bike should be seen rolling out of control.

: In the opening car-driving scenes, Moneypenny is wearing her seatbelt, then she isn't, then she is. The same is true of Bond.

: In Istanbul, Bond goes to the mosque. When he approaches the mosque, the exterior shot is of the Sultan Ahmed mosque or "Blue Mosque" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sultan_Ahmed_Mosque). When Bond is inside, the interior is actually of the much older, nearby "Hagia Sophia" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hagia_Sophia).

: At the end of the film, Bond is standing on the roof. The time seen on Big Ben is 5.55, and there's loads of traffic in the background as well. He returns downstairs with Moneypenny and Tanner appears from M's office saying "morning 007". If it was morning in the winter months (Scotland having frozen lakes) it would be dark and not daylight that early.

: In the scene where Bond is chasing Silva in the Underground, he leaps over the emergency buttons and slides down the escalator panel. Initially you can see the emergency buttons at the bottom of the escalator, which would have broken his slide, however, these "disappear" as Bond slides smoothly off the panel at the bottom.

: When Bond is fighting on top of the train at the beginning of the film, his footwear changes from black lace up shoes to black slip-on ankle boots.

: In the opening scene on the train the coupling is shot away and the rear wagon separates, this ruptures the continuous brake pipe, which would cause both halves of the train to stop immediately.

: When Bond is drinking Macallan in M's apartment he set the bottle down with the label facing away from us. Next shot has the bottle facing towards us. Final shot and the bottle is back in its original position, with the label away from us again.

: James Bond is seen running down Whitehall in London. Behind him a number 38 bus is seen. However the 38 does not travel down or indeed particularly near Whitehall. This was probably done to show off the new Routemaster bus, which is currently only used on the 38 route.

: When M goes to see Mallory at the start of the film, he pours her a drink and places the bottle on the table with the label facing the camera. The label is off centre and more to the left - when M leaves the bottle has not been moved and the label is still facing the camera, but the label is now more to the right.

: As Bond chases Patrice over the rooftops of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul at the start of the film, in the close ups of Daniel Craig his tie can be seen noticeably flapping over his shoulder (as you would expect). But in the long shots with the stuntman it doesn't move about at all, presumably having been fixed in place for safety.

: When Silva places the glass of whiskey on the girl's head, the liquid is full to the brim in some shots, or a finger below in others.

: When Bond confronts the assassin and lets him fall to his death from the building in Shanghai, he then looks over to the opposite window where Severine is standing in the smashed window hole, her hair blowing in the breeze. When it cuts to the closeup of her leaving you can see the light reflected in the window glass that has magically reappeared.

: When Bond drives M away in the Jaguar XJ, police cars can be seen driving towards them when he speeds around the corner. The Volvo police car in front has two yellow dots on the top of the windscreen which mean armed response, but on the roof there is a circle, which means traffic/incident response. The aerial roof marking symbol should have been a five-edged star for armed response. Metropolitan police don't even use Volvos for armed response. They use BMW 5 series and X5s.

: The DB 5 drives from wet London to a wintery remote part of Scotland, and it's totally clean. The wheels and the bodywork are spotless when they drive into the grounds of the house.

: Bond and Silva travel from Temple station on the District/Circle line, which is a sub-surface line that has square tunnels (dug out from above and then covered over) and uses large trains with an almost square cross-section. However, the train they board is of the type used on the deep-level lines (eg. Northern and Jubilee lines), smaller and almost cylindrical in shape, and is seen to fit snugly into the cylindrical tube tunnel as the train leaves the station. They therefore can't be travelling on the District/Circle line, and must be on a deep-level line instead. The disused Jubilee line platforms at Charing Cross are often used for filming, and photographs available online show one such platform recently dressed as Temple station.

: In the opening chase scene 007 rides his bike against the wall of the bridge. The bike bounces back, but in the next shot it is catapulting over the wall, tumbling over and over.

: In the scene where the assassin is about to go up in the elevator the 3rd button down on the right has been pressed and is lit. As the elevator closes the button is no longer lit.

: In the scene where M (Judi Dench) is been driven back to the MI6 building, her car is stopped on a bridge and you see two cars stopping behind M's vehicle while she is still inside. She then gets out of the vehicle to speak to a police officer who requested that the car stop, and now two different vehicles are behind.

Skyfall - Trivia

The film's title was leaked ahead of the traditional start-of-production press conference after Sony registered various domain names, including skyfallthefilm.com and jamesbond-skyfall.com.

Coca-Cola was sprayed on the tarmac to increase the grip of the stunt vehicles in the pre-titles sequence.

The pre-titles sequence was initially intended to be set in India. Ahmedabad in the north-west of the country was selected. Shooting was planned for October 2011 but pushed back when permissions to close rail lines for eight hours a day for up to a week were not granted. The production rescheduled the pre-titles sequence for the end of the shoot and relocated to Istanbul.

85 suits were made available to the production for Bond and his doubles filming the pre-titles sequence.

In Turkey, Patrice wields a Glock 18, which is loaded with a 100-round drum magazine. It is later revealed that his ammunition of choice is a depleted uranium shell, more commonly associated with tanks and aircraft.

Special Effect coordinator Chris Corbould and Garry Powell devised the fantastic digger stunt where Bond "changes carriages". Corbould's team locked the digger into a track and programmed its movements via computer.

Craig is known to have improvised a number of lines in the film, including "health and safety, carry on". In the pre-titles sequence he spontaneously added the cuff check after jumping from the digger into the passenger carriage. In an interview with MI6 Confidential magazine, Craig humorously described this as a "nut check".

This is the second time that Bond drinks beer on screen but the first time that the logo is patently Heineken, one of the promotional partners of the franchise.

M's bulldog that she bequeath to Bond is a feature of this and the following 'SPECTRE'. It was selected by a prop buyer from a second-hand store but rocketed to fame as a result of the film. The dog was manufactured by Royal Doulton and, after 'Skyfall' was released, snapped up by filmgoers. Royal Doulton couldn't meet demand and 'Bulldog Jack' spent several long months out of stock.

Bond's obituary reads: "A senior officer of the Ministry of Defence, Commander James Bond C.M.G. R.N is missing believed killed, while on an official mission to Turkey". After 'You Only Live Twice' this is the second time that Bond's obituary has been seen on screen.

M is to be awarded GCMG (Dame Grand Cross) with full honours on retirement.

The exterior to M's flat, seen as she arrives home one dark, rainy night, is filmed at 82 Cadogan Square. Cadogan Square, near Sloane Square, was the home of the late James Bond composer, John Barry.

This is the third time we see inside M's home, and the second time in the Craig era. First Bond visit's M's home in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' and then, 36 years later, Bond breaks into M's London flat in 'Casino Royale'.

This story has a close affinity with unused tube stations. Tanner, taking Bond to the temporary MI6 headquarters describes their location as Churchill's bunker. This based on the idea that Winston Churchill once sheltered in an underground station during the Blitz. The location of Churchill's real bunker is Down Street in Mayfair, which operated as a tube station until 1932. It was then repurposed for the PM. Bond also spots Silva's code, Granborough, named after Granborough Road, a real life abandoned station on the Metropolitan line.

Ben Whishaw is the third man to play the MI6 Quartermaster, the second to affectionately labelled "Q" by Bond, and the first to be younger than the 007 star.

The painting admired by Q in the National Gallery is The Fighting Temeraire (1838) by Turner.

Q's sardonic reference to an "exploding pen" has only been a reality once in the official film franchise. Bond is issued with a bomb in a pen by Q in 'GoldenEye'. Meanwhile, 'Moonraker' includes a poison pen and 'Octopussy' a pen that releases acid to melt away metals.

The passport that Bond travels under in 'Skyfall' is a "genuine" passport issued to the production by the British Home Office. According to the details, Bond's alias is John Adam Bryce born 16 December 1968. Bryce was Bond's alias in Ian Fleming's "Live and Let Die".

Craig never travelled to Shanghai to film, indeed only the second unit travelled to the location. They shot on the impressive neon-blue highways and the Chinese government loaned the production a helicopter for their areal work. The swimming scene was filmed at the Four Seasons hotel in London, the entrance to the high-rise where Patrice assassinates his target is on Primrose Street, London, Ascot Racecourse was turned into Shanghai airport, and the rest of the shoot completed on sets at Pinewood. Craig's entrance to the casino was filmed on the Paddock Tank at Pinewood.

On the interior to the skyscraper, Roger Deakins lit the glass set exclusively with two large LED signs. The set became nicknamed the jellyfish after one of the recurring motifs on the LED screens.

A scene involving Sévérine and Patrice exchanging a briefcase containing his sniper rifle on the escalators at the airport was cut from the film. Clips of the scene were used in trailers and making-of featurette.

The first official still that appeared online from the shoot was of Bond lounging by the poolside. It was actually a still intended for long lead print publications and released online by mistake. This was quickly followed up with an eminently more Bondian shot. This showed 007, his Walther - and to many's surprise - a beard in Shanghai stalking Patrice.

It takes almost 50 minutes of screen time before Bond kills his first target (Patrice). Even then, he shows frustration at letting him die without giving up information.

When the first round of names are leaked on YouTube, the names of MI6 agents include 'Skyfall' crew members: executive assistant Andrew Surry, art director Paul Inglis, and effects technician Steve Benelisha.

Mallory's backstory is that he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Northern Ireland Hereford Regiment and was captured for three months by the IRA. This explains him competently wielding a weapon in the enquiry scenes.

Sévérine's boat is christened the Chimera. A Chimera is a fire-breathing lion with a goat's head from Greek mythology and referenced by Homer in the 'Iliad'.

The scene on board the Chimera was filmed in Fethiye, Turkey, at the same time as they filmed Bond's beachside "recuperation". According to Gregg Wilson, this scene fell by the wayside and a makeshift set was built on the docks to capture Bond's romantic rendezvous with Sévérine.

Silva's base is inspired by Hashima Island, the abandoned island off the coast of Nagasaki. The real island was used for reference footage and a few (CGI-enhanced) establishing shots.

As Bond and Silva walk through the dead city, the French WWII era song, 'Boum!', is heard playing on the tannoy.

Bond and Silva drink a "50-year-old" Macallan whisky which is said to be a favourite of Bond's. As the film franchise also celebrated a half a century in 2012, Bond star Daniel Craig and his co-stars signed a bottle of 1962 Macallan for a charity auction.

Raoul Silva is an alias for Tiago Rodriguez.

M's assistant is played by Elize Du Toit, but her role was almost entirely cut from the film. She can be seen in the enquiry scenes, and briefly in the pre-titles sequence where she was – before the edit – to have had a larger role.

In defending herself before the board of enquiry, M quotes from 'Ulysses' by Lord Tennyson. Tennyson was prompted to write the poem following the death of his closest friend. He completed it on 20 October 1833, but it was not published until 1842. The final three lines are inscribed on a cross at Observation Hill, Antarctica, to commemorate explorer Robert Falcon Scott and his party, who died on their return trek from the South Pole in 1912. M quotes the last five lines.

The title of Bond's ancestral home was a late-night spur of the imagination from writers Purvis and Wade, not from Fleming lore. In Fleming's novels Bond's father is Scottish and he, like his father, attended Fettes College in Scotland. The film is the first time the cinematic Bond's heritage and parentage are explicitly discussed.

This is the first time the f-word is used by a character in a Bond film. Several instances of 'shit' had been used in Bond films past – including four times in 'Licence To Kill' – but 'Skyfall' trumps this with five.

The arrival of Silva by helicopter is an homage to Francis Ford Coppola's 'Apocalypse Now'. Perhaps aptly, then, the AgustaWestland AW101 helicopter engine noise was anachronistically dubbed over by a Vietnam-era helicopter.

The painting of the real-life SIS building hung above M's (Ralph Fiennes) desk is by James Hart Dyke, who also designed the poster for 'Everything Or Nothing', the 2012 documentary.

Of her seven Bond films as M, 'Skyfall' boasts Judi Dench's largest amount of screen time. Indeed, she enjoys more screen time in this film alone than Desmond Llewelyn had in his 17 films as Q.

This is the first Bond film to be shot digitally, and the first time cinematographer Roger Deakins worked with digital.

On the inscription to the box that Bond receives from M, the props department have written her name as Olivia Mansfield. Bond lore to this point had held her name to be Barbara Mawdsley, although it had never been said on screen.

In order to keep the secret of M's death, many performers with minor roles were never issued a script.

'Skyfall' received five Oscar nods, the most number of Academy Award nominations in the franchise's history. The film doubled the number of Oscars the franchise had won: from two to four.

Trumpeter Derek Watkins played his final Bond theme for 'Skyfall'. He passed away in 2013 having played for all 23 films since age seventeen and 'Dr. No'.

It was the first film to receive an IMAX release.
