CASINO ROYALE 2006 - Villian Gettler is Richard Sammel
Gettler is an assassin working for Quantum (in the film) and
SMERSH (in the novel). He wears a Panama hat in both the film and novel.
Also, he wears an eyepatch in the novel, while in the film he wears
glasses with a darkened left lens. He is supposedly a Swiss watch salesman.
Adolph Gettler is a SMERSH operative sent to hunt down Bond and
Vesper after Le Chiffre is killed by SMERSH itself. He fails when Vesper
commits suicide.

Gettler is first seen by Vesper in Venice as she and Bond go
down the Grand Canal in their yacht. After Bond uncovers Vesper's betrayal,
he runs across the city trying to locate her and finds her about to hand
off the funds from the poker game with Le Chiffre to Gettler. Gettler
takes Vesper hostage with a dagger and Bond chases them into a building
under renovation, all the while having to outrun gunfire from Gettler's
men. When Gettler's bodyguard, The Tall Man, attempts to shoot Bond, the
agent causes the building to sink into the Grand Canal, thus starting an
all-out brawl between Gettler's thugs and Bond whilst avoiding the
steadily rising water level. During this fight Gettler's main weapon is a
Jericho 941. As the briefcase full of money drifts off the edge of a
floorboard, Gettler tries to grab it before it falls into the water below.
He loses the case, but it is later retrieved by Mr. White. During the
brawl Gettler aids in the fight against Bond although he primarily stays
out of range. Bond fights his way through several thugs, and finally kills
Gettler by shooting his left eye (the one covered with a darkened lens)
with the same nailgun that Gettler attempted to kill Bond with moments
before. Gettler's corpse is then left sitting on the ground as the
building sinks into the canal |

Synopsis
CASINO ROYALE is based on Ian Fleming's novel of the same name. Published in
1953, it was the first book in his James Bond series. EON Productions' Casino
Royale produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will mark the
introduction of Daniel Craig as legendary secret agent, 007. Martin Campbell
is directing this film, the 21st in the 44 year franchise.
Casino Royale introduces JAMES BOND before he holds his license to kill.
But Bond is no less dangerous, and with two professional assassinations in
quick succession, he is elevated to "00" status.
CULVER CITY, CA - July 26, 2006 - It was announced today by producers Michael
G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Sony Pictures
Entertainment, that Chris Cornell, the singer/songwriter behind Soundgarden,
Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, has written, in collaboration with Bond
composer David Arnold, and will perform the main title song entitled "You
Know My Name," for the new James Bond adventure CASINO ROYALE.

M (Judi Dench) places Bond under the watchful eye of the beguiling VESPER
LUND (Eva Green). At first skeptical of what value Vesper can provide, Bond's
interest in her deepens as they brave danger together and even torture at the

In Montenegro, Bond allies himself with MATHIS (Giancarlo Giannini) MI6's

Branson's Bond Cameo Was Bought
SIR RICHARD BRANSON landed cameo roles for himself and his son
in the new JAMES BOND movie after he helped to save movie
dollars by providing a plane at the last minute. A lifelong
Bond fan, Branson asked director MARTIN CAMPBELL if his
generosity would warrant a part in CASINO ROYALE.
Producer BARBARA BROCCOLI explains, "He was very
supportive of us and he helped us out when we needed a plane
in Prague. "He said, 'Can I just do a little cameo' and
Martin said, 'Come to the airport and we'll stick you in the
little security thing and you can set the bells off.' "He
had a lot of fun and he was a trooper and it was a long night.
He and his son were in the scene and they were great."
Branson can be seen playing a frenzied passenger going through

Den 21.a Bondfilmen Casino Royale introducerar Daniel
Craig i rollen som 007. Filmen är baserad på Ian Flemings första

Om
filmens tillkomst
Bondfans över hela världen hade under många år framfört
önskemål om att Eon skulle göra en "riktig" Bondfilm baserad på
Ian Flemings första Bondbok Casino Royale.
Som vi minns hade Fleming på ett (alltför) tidigt stadium sålt filmrättigheterna
till den här boken, med följd att Casino Royale inte ingick i det
paket Bondböcker som Saltzman & Broccoli köpte filmrättigheterna till
1961. Columbia gjorde så småningom film av
Casino
Royale 1967 med David Niven som Bond och med Peter Sellers som
Evelyn Tremble. Det är en ökänt usel film som var tänkt som en parodi på
Bond och som i våra dagar mest fungerat som en förlaga för Austin
Powers-filmerna.
Columbia köptes senare av Sony. I samband med en juridisk uppgörelse
mellan MGM och Sony 2000 överfördes slutligen rättigheterna till Casino
Royale till MGM, som därigenom samlade alla Bondrättigheter under
sitt eget tak. Därmed kunde fansen börja hoppas på att bokens intrig
skulle kunna dyka upp i en kommande Bondfilm.
Den tjugonde Bondfilmen, Die Another Day, hade blivit en stor
kassasuccé, den mest inkomstbringande Bondfilmen så långt.
Alla räknade med att Pierce Brosnan skulle återkomma som
007.

director Martin Campbell announced that Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen (King
Arthur) will play the main villain Le Chiffre, putting to rest at least
one of the Casino Royale casting questions.

As for the more burning question of who will play the Bond girl, Campbell
revealed the choice is now down to "two or three" but added "you'll
just have to wait to find out." Eva Green and Olivia Wilde are reported
to be the finalists.
New James Bond Daniel Craig, perhaps thinking of the frayed nerves caused
by starting the $100 million-plus shoot without a love interest, assured that
the shoot is progressing anyway: "We haven't got there so it's all
fine."
True to form, one journalist from the Czech magazine Spy asked Craig what
he thought of media speculation about his "orientation." After a
moment, Craig responded icily, "I didn't know they had but thanks for the
information."
Another local reporter got off to an interesting start by asking the
assembled group, Craig, Campbell, Judi Dench and producers Michael Wilson and
Barbara Broccoli, if they were aware there was a previous Casino
Royale.

Entertainment, that DANIEL CRAIG has been cast in the role of
the legendary British secret agent, James Bond, in the highly
anticipated 007 adventure thriller CASINO ROYALE.
CASINO ROYALE reunites Wilson and Broccoli with Martin
Campbell, who directed the 1995 Bond blockbuster GOLDENEYE.
His most recent film, “The Legend of Zorro,” will be
released on October 28, 2005.
CASINO ROYALE will be the 21st James Bond film produced by the
franchise holders, EON Productions. The MGM/Columbia Pictures
production begins shooting in January and is due for release
worldwide on November 17, 2006. It will be filmed in the Czech
Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and the UK.
Neal Purvis and Robert Wade wrote the screenplay based on
famed author Ian Fleming’s first novel. The script is
currently being polished by Academy Award®-nominated writer,
Paul Haggis (“Million Dollar Baby”).
Born in 1968, DANIEL CRAIG was raised on the Wirral nr.
Liverpool. He moved to London to join the National Youth
Theatre at the age 17 and continued his training at the London
Guildhall School of Music and Drama. CRAIG has since become
regarded as one of Britain's finest actors securing a variety
of roles in television, theatre and film.
He is currently filming a thriller alongside Nicole Kidman,
"The Visiting", and has two films in post-production;
Steven Spielberg's "Munich" and Douglas McGrath's
"Every Word Is True", co-starring Sandra Bullock and
Gwyneth Paltrow.
Recent film credits include Sam Mendes' "The Road to
Perdition", "The Mother", "Sylvia",
and last year he received much critical acclaim for Matthew

Following the latest wave of tabloid speculation and pre-emptive "confirmation"
on the casting of the sixth James Bond 007, Eon Productions have confirmed
that a decision is yet to be made.
Reuters
reports that the decision on who replaces Pierce Brosnan as the next James
Bond remains a mystery just weeks, possibly days, ahead of an official
announcement.
Who
will play Bond villain Le Chiffre? Might it be Donald Sutherland,
Gulshan Grover, Hrithik Roshan, or Gunnar Schäfer... or one of the other
twelve choices?
Screenwriter Paul Haggis speaks of James Bond Begins concept for Casino

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Paul Haggis, who joined Casino Royale production
last month to polish the script, has spoken briefly to the
Hollywood
Reporter about his work on the film and the prospect of a younger James
Bond 007.
The trade paper said that whilst in Toronto, "Haggis returned to his
hotel room to work on his polish of the 21st James Bond film, "Casino
Royale." "It's going to be good," he says. "We're trying
to reinvent Bond. He's 28: no Q, no gadgets."
This confirms
earlier
reports that the producers and director Martin Campbell wanted
"Casino Royale" to follow a "Bond Begins" concept, much
like the recently rejuvenated Batman franchise.
Long-term Bond fans may recall that Michael G. Wilson wanted to take 007 back
to his early career after Roger Moore's tenure as Bond was over in 1985, but
producer Cubby Broccoli decided to stick with the tried and tested formula and
hired Timothy Dalton to star in "The Living Daylights". Twenty years
on and now a co-producer, Wilson is trying out the concept again.
This clashes with the studio, who want Pierce Brosnan to return for a fifth
time and a guaranteed box-office success.
Sony
have asked Brosnan to come back, but the four-times 007 said that the
invitation has to come from the producers.
The search for an actor to play a younger Bond is proving difficult, with
neither party finding common ground on any of the contenders. With the start
date of principal photography looming in January, a decision one way or
another is needed soon to avoid a significant delay in production.
Sources close to
fellow James Bond fansites Absolutely James Bond and
CommanderBond.net are reporting that the script for Bond 21 is
set to be based on the 1953 Ian Fleming novel Casino Royale.
The current drafts for the film (to be written by Neal
Purvis and Robert Wade), as reported by these sources, are
rumored to be based on the Fleming novel.
The sources did not
indicate whether the film itself would be titled Casino
Royale or if a location of filming would be Prague (as it
was previously rumored to be). If the film is made, it
would be the third installment of a Casino Royale-related
film. The first installment, starring Barry Nelson as Bond
was released as a made for TV movie on CBS in 1954, shortly after
the publishing of Fleming's book. The second installment in
1967 was a spoof starring David Niven, Peter Sellers, Woody Allen
and Ursula Andress.
This news probably
comes disappointing to Pierce Brosnan, a major supporter of a Royale
based Bond 21, who recently announced his 'retirement' from
the Bond franchise. The news also opens up the door for
veteran filmmaker Quentin Tarantino to take the helm as
director. Tarantino mentioned that he would love to make a
Bond film based on the 1953 novel, and is going to submit his
idea for a film to Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G.
Wilson.
All said and done,
production of the 21st installment will not begin until a final
agreement is found in the possible sale of MGM to Sony, Warner
Brothers and other candidates. This could delay the
production of Bond 21 until 2006.

Bond installment are keen on filming in Prague and have begun
talks with studios and service companies. However, it looks like
a decision may be waiting on the completion of a script.
Also, Universal has scheduled a September-February production
schedule in Prague for its big-budget adaptation of the Doom
video game. 20th Century Fox will be filming the Swiss-set Josiah's
Canon, directed by Brett Ratner and starring Sean Connery, in
the city this October.
The trade adds that Brian De Palma's Los Angeles-set Black
Dahlia may shoot in the Czech Republic capital city. Director
Wayne Kramer's Running Scared, a low-budget New Jersey
Mafia film starring Paul Walker, will start production there in
late June.
Liev Schreiber's directing debut, Everything Is Illuminated,
starring Elijah Wood as a young man searching for the Ukrainian
woman who saved his grandfather's life, began filming on

The non-Bond Bonds are Casino Royale (1967) and Never Say Never
Again (1983).
It is generally known that the rights to the novel Casino Royale were
sold to a producer, Gregory Ratoff in the early fifties for $1,000.* A
television play was made from it, with Barry Nelson as Bond and Peter Lorre as
Le Chiffre. Hence this title stayed separate and free when the rest of the Ian
Fleming oeuvre was acquired for the movies. Much later Casino Royale was
made into a big-budget comedy spy caper to 'Get on the Bond-wagon', as they used
to say. Its producer was Charles K. Feldman, an agent who represented Ratoff's
widow.
Never Say Never Again stems from a different situation. Also generally
known is that in the late fifties Ian Fleming took a break from writing novels
to develop a screenplay in conjunction with potential producing partners, who
included English producer/writer Kevin McClory. That project, called 'Longitude
78 West', was never filmed. Fleming converted ideas from it into his book, Thunderball,
and a court case followed, which in 1963 ended with film rights to Thunderball
being awarded to Sean McClory. When it came time in the official series to film Thunderball,
McClory remained part of the package. Exercising his rights, he essentially
remade Thunderball in 1983 as Never Say Never Again. His producing
coup, of course, was to successfully cast Sean Connery, which is why Never
Say Never Again is often erroneously thought to be part of the series.

Marking a new stage in venality, British Airways has
edited out appearances by Virgin Group chairman Sir
Richard Branson (and his Virgin Atlantic airline) from the
movie Casino Royale for display on BA flights.
Branson famously
negotiated a cameo for himself in the James Bond flick
-- he sets off an alarm while passing through an airport
metal detector -- by providing the production the use of one
of his planes. BA's explanation for cutting out the rival
tycoon: "Many films are edited in some way on board." They
should have just edited in BA CEO Willie Walsh as a security
guard ready to give Branson a solid "wanding."
